Dear Viewer
It is my privilege to welcome you and introduce you to “National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, HP” (NIT-H) which has been established in 1986 as Regional Engineering College and has been given a status of Deemed University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India, along with other NITs in 2002. This institute is situated in Hamirpur, Himachal-Pradesh and is built along the picturesque of Dhauladhar mountain range with lush green live forest and having every aspect of Himalayan terrain and repositories. It has a cool glow with brilliant scenic beauty. Himachal has a wealth of ancient Hindu and Buddhist art and culture in its number of temples and monasteries. The NIT Hamirpur believes in serious academic pursuit and encourages the radical and original thinking with regard to national and internationally relevant ideas, policies through intellectually stimulating debates and discussions at all levels. Institution is building its reputation step by step with a dedicated goal of adding value to life and professional standards. It is a place which only inspires the inner soul, elevating spiritually. Many feel it to be an ideal and right choice for pursuit of Research Studies. The campus is well laid with roads, electric installations, water supply, underground drainage etc. The place has healthy climate with moderate temperature ranging from 1 degree Celsius to 38 degree Celsius with an altitude of 900 meters.
NIT Hamirpur offers Undergraduate (B.Tech. in Core branches of Engineering. and B. Arch.) and Post Graduate (M. Tech. and Ph.D) degree programmes in various branches of Engineering, Science and Humanities. The admission to B. Tech. and B. Arch. is through AIEEE conducted by CBSE and through GATE score to PG admission. The detailed rules and procedures for Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate courses are available on this institute website. The institute does admit students from foreign countries in different categories like Foreign nationals, NRIs, etc.
I joined the Institution in November 2005 and started to consolidate the good work that was carried out by the my predecessors. Besides this I have introduced some reforms which have paid the rich dividends. The faculty, staff and students (especially Coordinators of different activities) have put in their best efforts to improve the academic ambience of the Institute. During this period my role has been to
decentralize and facilitate all to become organization's people which is going to be the major strength of this Institute in future. It has helped all employees to set up the goals for
institutional and personal development and make action plan to achieve the objectives.
During this short period we have built a new Administrative Corporate office wherein administration, finance, store, academics, audit sections etc. are housed.
First time, Deans have been allocated a space. Deans office area is on
the latest design and all facilities provided to make them more
efficient and effective. The persons working in these sections possess multi- skills and have been trained both within and outside the Institution. They are presently working in an intelligent and wireless networked digital environment. The workplace has been equipped with IP based communication systems, powerful and versatile software. It has helped in improving personal productivity, quicker disposal of files, unified communications, optimal use of resources, creating friendly environment and improved morale.
A new Computer Centre with state of art
facilities is about to be ready and hope to be operation from next
semester (July, 2008). Extra floor on all buildings have created more
space and thus more facilities have been created in the departments.
New Lecture Hall Complex is in progress which
will house 23 lecture halls fitted with all latest gadgets. Vindyachal
Hostel is already completed for 160 students. New Boys Hostel with 450
students capacity is being constructed. Training Hostel with capacity
of 150 is under advance stage of planning.
Of late the institute has signed several MoUs with many National and International Universities and also with several Industries for promotion of Research and Development. It has been ranked very high as per Data Quest and World Bank evaluation.
